Marukin’s Mentsuyu (Ready-to-Use Tsuyu) is an umami-packed, soy-based sauce for Japanese noodles. Bottled mentsuyu, in general, comes in two types, straight or concentrated, and this one is the straight type that can be used without diluting! It’s easy to use, but it also exhibits a substantial, superb umami. It’s made by carefully blending premium soy sauce and exquisite dashi broth crafted with high grade ingredients sourced from all over Japan—bonito flakes from Makurazaki in Kagoshima Prefecture and Yaizu in Shizuoka Prefecture, sardines from Kumamoto Prefecture, and kombu kelp from Hokkaido. Marukin’s Mentsuyu can be used for all styles; hot or cold, and for dipping style noodles and noodle soup. It’s a perfect match for somen (vermicelli-like thin wheat noodles), but it also accompanies udon (thick wheat noodles) and soba (buckwheat noodles) very well. It contains no preservatives or artificial flavorings.
Because Marukin’s Mentsuyu is a ready-to-use noodle sauce, you can use it as-is, meaning that you don’t have to dilute it with water. Simply open the bottle and pour it into your dipping sauce dish or directly over noodles. Its light texture and substantial umami make it a perfect match with somen vermicelli noodles, but you can enjoy it with udon and soba as well. The Mentsuyu can be a dipping sauce, bukkake sauce (pour-over sauce), or used for soups, as well. It’s great for both hot and cold noodles.
