Unlike many other wasabi pastes which are blended with horseradish, Kameya’s Coarsely Grated Hon Wasabi is made from only Japanese-native “hon wasabi”—which translates literally as “real wasabi”. Hon wasabi delivers pure, fresh pungency with a delicate sweetness, that adds a pleasant zest to dishes. This ready-to-use wasabi is particularly flavorful thanks to high-quality hon wasabi grown at the base of Mt. Amagi in Izu, Shizuoka Prefecture. Since it’s coarsely grated, it retains more umami presence—the finer you grate, the stronger the pungency that masks the umami. Also, it allows you to enjoy the crisp texture and natural flavor of the ingredients. This rich and flavorful wasabi effortlessly accompanies dishes like sushi, sashimi, soba, and cold tofu, but it can also add a fresh and vibrant kick to oily and fatty dishes like steaks and tempura.

Whether you serve it on the side or mix it in, adding just a small amount of Coarsely Grated Hon Wasabi can instantly and dramatically change the impression of dishes. Wasabi is conventionally used with traditional fares like sushi, sashimi, sushi rolls, and soba noodles due to its heavenly match with umami from fish. However, Coarsely Grated Hon Wasabi is also particularly great with western dishes thanks to its sophisticated pungency, subtle sweetness, and crisp wasabi root texture. Try it with steaks or roast beef in place of mustard or horseradish. It also makes great wasabi mayonnaise and wasabi dressings that can be used for salad and sandwiches.

Not what expected from what it is written as real Hon Wasabi. It does taste a bit artificial and also salty.

Not so impressive

The ingredients list on the website and on the actual product are different. There are more ingredients on the product than on the website. It has food coloring, too.

Coarsely Grated Hon Wasabi

The wasabi taste is good but like not natural. I had another one is also fresh wasabi it had more natural taste and I also give my friends try they had same feeling with me. By the way the product still worth and tasty a lot better than usually we found on market one.

Love this WASABI so much more flavor than my normal store product
